This event will take place on the unceded, ancestral and traditional territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.

We are walking out of class on Monday, January 27th @ 10 am and rallying at Convocation Mall before we head to Vancouver City Hall to join the bigger rally with other Metro Vancouver students.
Wet’suwet’en First Nation are under attack by the RCMP for defending their land against the Coastal Gaslink LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) pipeline.
Wet’suwet’en sovereignty and unceded lands are under attack. We are asking you to join in the international call for support issued by the Wet’suwet’en Nation by organizing walk outs across British Columbia and Canada.
British Columbia breaks its own laws by attacking Wet’suwet’en: Even though the province of British Columbia signed the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) into law in November of 2019, they continue to violate Indigenous sovereignty and Free, Prior and Informed Consent.
On December 31, 2019, the BC Supreme Court disregarded Anuc ‘nu’at’en (Wet’suwet’en Law) and issued an injunction allowing the RCMP to forcibly remove Wet’suwet’en people who have reoccupied their traditional territories in northern BC. The Hereditary Chiefs of all five clans of the Wet’suwet’en Nation responded by rejecting the Supreme Court’s injunction. Then the Chiefs evicted Coastal GasLink and their contractors who are attempting to build a liquified natural gas pipeline (LNG) across unceded Wet’suwet’en territory.
Indigenous sovereignty is climate justice: Indigenous sovereignty and climate justice are tied together because Indigenous peoples know how to care for and steward the land in sustainable ways. Don’t be fooled by the liquified “natural” gas (LNG) pipeline that Coastal GasLink is attempting to build across BC -- there is nothing natural about it! The Wet’suwet’en people are taking a stand for future generations and for all of us.
We are counting on our youth: We are counting on youth across British Columbia and Canada to stand up, walk out, and show solidarity with the Wet’suwet’en Nation. Now more than ever, we must unite our calls for justice, link arms, and stand together!
