We are inviting post-secondary students to come together and plan how we can mobilize the Metro Vancouver student body in the fight for climate justice. Climate justice is a term used for framing global warming as an ethical, social and political issue, rather than one that is purely environmental or physical in nature.
For the last International Climate Strike on September 27th, we mobilized about 6,000 post-secondary students in Metro Vancouver of a total population of over 250,000. If organizers from different institutions can come together to share advice and resources, and if we start planning now, we can do so much better for the next international strike in the spring!
Once we have a mobilization structure in place, we can do so much more than just turn out the student body for the climate strikes. We can mobilize for student issues such as tuition freeze and affordable student housing, social justice, environmental activism and international actions across the Metro Vancouver campuses. And with a student movement behind us, we can we BIG.
Together we can build a culture of activism and advocacy within post-secondary institutions in Metro Vancouver that can be sustained for years to come!

This event is being organized by members of Climate Strike Canada as well as many other groups, but we have not decided to be directly associated with any them at this point.
The group is open to everyone who is interested in mobilizing students on university campuses. You do not have to be a post-secondary student to join; recent university and high school graduates are more than welcome.

We acknowledge that this gathering will take place on the unceded, traditional, ancestral and occupied homelands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh). For those who are non-Indigenous, our presence on these lands is an ongoing act of colonization. When we acknowledge these territories, we also acknowledge our responsibility to center and support Indigenous sovereignty in all our organizing.
